The Science Survey

Cadence Chen, Staff Reporter

Cadence Chen is an Editor-in-Chief for ‘The Science Survey.’ She enjoys journalistic writing for its artistic concision and sharp insights. Cadence especially takes pleasure in interviewing interesting people, which she has found consists of almost everybody. Being a journalist has challenged her perspective on narrative form and how language can be used. To supplement articles, Cadence takes many photos and is delighted when she finds one that feels complete. She believes that journalistic photography offers the distinct ability to deliver large stories and ideas packaged in an accessible box. From writing and taking photos, she is continually gaining a greater appreciation for the details. Cadence’s proclivity for investigation follows her outside of the classroom and has remained a consistent force. Discovering hidden gems in her neighborhood is one of her greatest joys. The Paris Review’s archives and audio author interviews, which she engages with as much as possible, take up a considerable amount of her time. She is also attempting to finish reading her ever-growing collection of books before she goes to college. There, Cadence sees herself studying linguistics, comparative literature, and philosophy but is excited to explore a breadth of disciplines. Grateful for the ability to write for this newspaper, Cadence knows that journalism will continue to occupy a significant space in her life.
