The Science Survey

Katia Anastas, Staff Reporter

Katia Anastas is an Editor in Chief for ‘The Science Survey.’ She loves that journalistic writing equally emphasizes creativity and truth, while allowing the world to be viewed from multiple lenses. Moreover, she believes that journalists have the unique ability to highlight the experiences of underrepresented groups, hold people in power accountable for their actions, and disseminate vital information to the public in relation to cultural, political, and economic shifts. Additionally, Katia appreciates photojournalism given that it personalizes stories and speaks to our emotions. Outside of journalism, Katia’s passion for politics, philosophy, history, and international relations has fueled her love of debate. During her junior year, she served as a Novice Director for the Public Forum debate team, and this year she is a Captain for the varsity division. She is also a Secretary for the Green Room and Vice Chair of the Judicial Board. Outside of school, Katia is an avid reader. Some of her favorite authors include Gabriel García Márquez, Jeffrey Eugenides, Joan Didion, and Pablo Neruda. Her favorite book is ‘Middlesex’ by Jeffrey Eugenides. ‘One Hundred Years of Solitude’ by Gabriel García Márquez is a close second. Additionally, Katia also enjoys exploring philosophical texts such as ‘The Way of Chuang Tzu,’ translated by Thomas Merton, and ‘Meditations’ by Marcus Aurelius. While her interests remain diverse, Katia plans to study international relations, political science, history, and philosophy in college.
