The Science Survey

Kaitlyn Chan
Kaitlyn Chan is a Staff Reporter for ‘The Science Survey’ and a Student Life Reporter for ‘The Observatory’. She values the art of writing as an expression of her creativity and individuality. By partaking in the school newspaper, she hopes to communicate and spread awareness to students about school-organized events, academic and athletic news, extracurricular activities as well as current events, as well as encourage others to participate in the Bronx Science community. She believes that photography is an essential aspect in journalistic writing because it allows readers to better understand and envision a story. Furthermore, the visual approach taken by pictures and illustrations embellishes the words of an article, drawing the audiences’ attention and effectively creating lasting memories and impressions. Aside from writing, Chan’s favorite pastimes include baking, shopping, watching Netflix, going to arcades or amusement parks, and spending time with family and friends. She is always open to trying new activities, travelling to new places, and exploring unfamiliar cultures and cuisines. Outside of classes, she is a member of the Japanese Culture Club and the Asian American Association, and has volunteered in senior centers, environmental centers, and hospitals. Her favorite travel destination has been Disney World, but she looks forward to visiting countries such as France, Greece and Japan. While her favorite food is sushi, she has a huge sweet tooth for ice cream and chocolate as well. Her interest in the fields of biology and chemistry has motivated her to pursue a career in medicine in the future. Although she is not quite sure what kind of medical profession she wants to specialize in, she hopes to not only work and study according to her interests, but also give back to her community, and help others to lead a happy and healthy life.
