The Science Survey

Celeste Abourjeili
Celeste Abourjeili is the Editor-in-Chief of ‘The Science Survey.’ She has a passion for journalistic writing because it gives voice to all groups of people, regardless of their identity. Celeste is interested in photography because it captures important moments and tells stories in unique and creative ways. Outside of academics, Celeste has a profound interest in international cultures, languages, and literature. Her favorite books include “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coehlo, “Sapiens” by Yuval Noah Harari, and “11/22/63” by Stephen King. In school, Celeste is a devoted member of Bronx Science’s Speech and Debate team as well as a leader in the school’s UNICEF Club and Model UN team. Beyond school, Celeste conducted research in cell biology as an intern for the lab of Dr. Francesca Bartolini at Columbia University Medical Center and interned for City Council member Ben Kallos. This past summer, Celeste founded and directed a free SHSAT tutoring program called the Aim Project, which aims to diversify New York City’s specialized high schools by supporting students from underfunded middle schools. Although Celeste still does not have concrete plans for her future, she hopes to pursue a career in which she can put her problem-solving skills to use. Celeste hopes to study international affairs and is interested in careers in journalism, law, and diplomacy.
