The bubble-burst crisis in Japan was the last time that the Japanese government intervened in its currency. The “bubble” is when the prices of real estate and stocks rose to very high levels in the 1980s in Japan, and the bubble burst in the 1990s when BOJ increased its interest rate. As a result, fewer people could afford to invest, and the demand for real estate and stocks dropped. Japan's economy entered a prolonged period of stagnation, known as the "Lost Decade," where growth was very slow, and deflation persisted.
