Mariama Diallo is an Editorial Editor for ‘The Science Survey,’ where she is responsible for overseeing and editing articles in the Editorial section for the newspaper. She appreciates the creative and inquisitive nature of journalistic writing, and the power it has to transform individuals and societies through the dissemination of knowledge and storytelling. Being both an avid reader and writer since childhood, Mariama figured that the Journalism class would allow her to heighten and intensify her love for literacy, as well as share that passion with others. Additionally, she finds that photography preserves the narratives and stories moments capture, and taking photographs has the ability to foster an emotional connection with viewers through visual storytelling and shared human experiences. One of her favorite books of all time is A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini, which tells the story of two Afghan women whose paths intertwine during a period of political and emotional turmoil. Besides reading and writing, Mariama enjoys watching old movies and musicals that she can connect to. Her favorite musical is Hamilton composed by Lin Manuel Miranda. In college, Mariama plans on further exploring the world of journalism and literacy, and studying political science, history, and English.
