The Confectionary Fun of Baking Club

Bronx Science’s Baking Club creates delicious treats every Tuesday at 3:45.

Bronx Science’s baking club cooks up delicious treats every Tuesday in the Biology wing of our school. Members can be found in Room 337 making rice krispy treats, cookies, muffins, and other delectable sweets, using the ovens and stovetops that our classroom provides. When looking at these photos, you can almost smell the sweet treats that the students are making. Getting into the club isn’t easy, however; it is infamous for its long wait list to join the fun. No matter your skill level, all those who are interested are welcome, as long as there’s space. In a rigorous school with a sometimes stressful environment, after school activities such as Baking Club gives students a chance to relax.

Anna Hunt is an Arts and Entertainment editor for ‘The Science Survey.’ While this is her first year, she enjoys telling a story through journalistic writing. Anna likes interviewing people about their perspective because she finds it fascinating. She wants to do more investigative journalism in the future. Photography is also very interesting to Anna because she wants to capture feelings when she takes pictures, to capture the essence of the moment. Anna enjoys reading fantasy and realistic fiction, as well as playing video games. She particularly enjoys the Percy Jackson series and the Artemis Fowl series. She also likes playing the trumpet in her music class. Someday, Anna wants to be a journalist at a major publication, and tell the stories of average people. If that fails, maybe she will go into graphic design, or music. Overall, Anna has a passion to create.

Jinha Yoo is a Content and Proofreading Editor for ‘The Science Survey.’ She believes in the power of storytelling not only to inform people about the topics she deeply cares about but also to provoke interest and curiosity among readers. Jinha loves journalistic photography due to its ability to capture the raw, unfiltered moments of reality. She appreciates the beauty of photography as it freezes emotions, expressions, and events in time, conveying powerful stories without the need for words. Outside of school, Jinha enjoys listening to music, coding, and taking photos. Jinha is also a co-founder of Physics club and is a member of of Key Club, Math Team, and Model UN. In college, Jinha plans to pursue a career in the medical field.

Claire Elkin serves as an Editor-in-Chief of The Science Survey, where she not only oversees the editing and writing of articles but also brings her passion for storytelling, arts, and culture to the forefront of her work. A dedicated reader and lover of music, Claire uses journalism as a platform to amplify diverse voices and provide her audience with insightful, in-depth coverage. Her favorite stories delve into the lives and experiences of various communities, aiming to create immersive narratives that help readers connect with worlds beyond their own. Looking ahead, Claire hopes to pursue journalism in her academic career, especially within the field of linguistics, where she can deepen her understanding of language and its impact on shaping compelling narratives. Claire also sees photojournalism as a unique companion to written storytelling, providing a raw, visual dimension that words alone sometimes cannot capture. For her, photos can convey emotions, contexts, and moments with a depth that complements and often enhances traditional reporting. Beyond her journalistic work with The Science Survey, Claire is involved in research in developmental and clinical psychology, exploring how these fields intersect with communication and storytelling in meaningful ways.

Arjana Mulosmani, Staff Reporter

Arjana Mulosmani is a Sports Editor for ‘The Science Survey.’ She finds the ability to express her opinions and explore her interests through journalism to be the most appealing aspect, such as her love for sports. Additionally, Arjana enjoys journalistic photography as it captures things that words can’t alone explain. She spends the majority of her free time playing sports and in the outdoors. However, she also enjoys watching movies and reading books, with her all-time favorite movie being The Notebook. In college, Arjana plans on pursuing a career in the medical field, and can see herself doing some form of journalism in the future.

Kathryn Wu, Staff Reporter

Kathryn Wu is a Graphic Designer and Copy Chief for ‘The Observatory’ yearbook. She is also a Staff Reporter for ‘The Science Survey.’ Kathryn finds journalistic writing to be very expressive and enjoys how she can learn a lot about many different types of people through each of their unique stories. In addition to writing, Kathryn finds journalistic photography to be an amazing medium that captures stories visually. Kathryn is known to be very artsy and creative. Outside of school, you can find her spending most of her free time watching K-dramas, learning K-pop choreography, and singing karaoke with friends. Kathryn’s plans for the future aren’t set in stone and she is currently unsure of a specific career path. However, she would love to have a future career in a business or artistic field whether that is architecture, digital marketing, or some sort of graphic design.

Sarah Rubinstein, Staff Reporter

Sarah Rubinstein is a Content and Proofreading Editor for ‘The Science Survey.’ This is her second year writing for ‘The Science Survey,’ and she finds in-depth reporting to be the most intriguing aspect of journalism. The ways in which reporters ask questions and use quotes can be an extremely powerful tool when done correctly. Sarah also finds the focal point of journalistic photography to be an appealing aspect as it can alter the story you are trying to tell. In her free time, Sarah enjoys watching mystery movies and sitcoms. She has always been fond of writing and hopes to pursue a career in filmmaking as a writer or director.

Samie Lee, Staff Reporter

Samie Lee is a Copy Chief and Chief Graphic Designer for ‘The Observatory’ yearbook. She is also a Staff Reporter for ‘The Science Survey’ newspaper. Samie believes that the most appealing aspect of journalistic writing is in its ability to connect people worldwide and to spread information and stories to those whom it reaches. These elements are also heavily present in journalistic photography, where a heavier focus on emotion and visual representations can also convey the same meanings. Samie likes watching movies and shows, and she plays games with her friends. She is planning on studying and pursuing neuroscience or psychology in the future. But she also wishes to continue her interest in the humanities, doing art and writing as a hobby whenever she can.

Anna Koontz is an Editor-in-Chief for ‘The Science Survey.’ She believes that journalism is a powerful form of communication, collaboration, and self-expression. She also enjoys documenting and sharing stories through photography, using snapshots in time to reflect lasting truths. When she’s not writing or editing, Anna enjoys playing viola, caring for her school garden, and exploring New York City with her friends. No matter what she decides to study in college, Anna hopes that writing will continue to be an integral part of her life.
