Girls’ Varsity Swimming Highlights From the Fall 2024 Season

This fall swimming season has been full of fun and competitive success.

The Bronx Science Girls’ Varsity Swim team had a great season in the fall of 2024. They attended 10 meets, competing against schools such as George Washington, Hunter, and Stuyvesant. Their final team record was 9-1! The girls competed in A-Champs the weekend of November 9th and 10th, 2024, and Tenzin Panamserkhang ’25 and Liv Doruk-Olsen ’25 made it to States. Overall the team’s performance was very impressive, and the dedication and discipline they put in definitely paid off.

All of the girls worked really hard, practicing at the Walton High School pool three times a week. The team was glad to welcome some new swimmers this year, and everyone contributed to making this season one of the best. The managers and Coach Mark Maraj also played a pivotal role organizing practices, meets, and team communication. We will all be sad to see the seniors graduate, but it has been a great season.

She values journalism because it educates the public on worldly topics in an engaging way. Thus, she enjoys writing about interesting subjects that have the potential to teach people. Frances likes journalistic photography because photos are meant to tell stories, and journalistic photography conflates storytelling and photography in a creative way. Outside of Journalism class, Frances has a passion for research and learning about the world, which has driven her interests on the debate team. She is also on the Girls' Varsity Cross Country team at Bronx Science. Frances loves reading, and her favorite book is George Orwell's 1984. Another book that she highly recommends is Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game.

Lucas Benjamin, Staff Reporter

Lucas Benjamin is a Sports Editor for ‘The Science Survey.’ He seeks to use journalistic writing and photography as a way to dive deeper into fascinating topics that fill our world. Outside of journalism class, he enjoys playing and watching sports, specifically football and golf. He also loves exploring and listening to music, his favorite artists being Zach Bryan and Drake. Lucas also loves traveling and trying new foods, Japan being his favorite travel destination. While not certain, Lucas is interested in studying economics or business in college. In his future, he hopes to pursue a career in either real estate, investment banking, or sports media.
