The Science Survey

Maanya Shah
Maanya Shah is an Arts and Entertainment Editor for ‘The Science Survey.' She finds that journalistic writing is the perfect way to balance creative and informative ideas. Although she is first and foremost a film photographer, Maanya has enjoyed learning digital photography, which is not as limiting when she is taking photographs at school events or concerts. Maanya is a voracious reader; her favourite books include 'The Alchemist,' 'To Kill a Mockingbird,' and 'Pride and Prejudice,' and her favorite plays are 'Julius Caesar' and 'Twelve Angry Men.' Maanya is a guitarist and singer with an eclectic taste in music; she adores 'The Strokes' and 'Arctic Monkeys' but also loves 'The Beatles,' 'The Rolling Stones,' 'Dire Straits,' and 'Pink Floyd' just as much. In her free time, Maanya goes to as many concerts as she can, gets lost in The Met and the MoMA, and watches old movies. Her journalistic role models are Frank Bruni, Carl Bernstein and Maureen Dowd, and she considers Henri Cartier-Bresson’s work to be the most influential on her own style of photography. Maanya reads ‘The New York Times’ every morning without fail and does both crosswords. Born in London, but with family in India and Hong Kong, Maanya travels as often as she can, but still has so much that she wants to see. Maanya hopes to continue her journalistic interests at university, where she plans to study politics.
