Louisiana Stahl is a Chief Graphic Designer and Athletics Section Editor for ‘The Observatory' yearbook and a Staff Reporter for 'The Science Survey' newspaper. What’s appealing to Lou about journalistic writing is that it is written because it matters, either to the journalist, or to the audience. It is filling a need, whether that is to tell the news, or in the case of an editorial, to state an opinion. This makes the writing meaningful, as it is sure to be read by someone. Lou finds the photojournalism aspect of articles the most fascinating. Even though an article is made up of writing, Lou believes that the pictures are what make or break an article. They set the tone for the article, and can evoke emotion in a reader that they might not be able to get from the writing. As the saying goes, “a picture is worth a thousand words." Outside of school, Lou is a professional speedskater on the U.S. Junior National Team, and had the incredible opportunity to represent the United States in Poland for the World Junior Championships. Lou's goal is to be able to represent the United States in the Olympics. Another hobby of Lou's is film photography. In college, Lou plans on studying something having to do with Biology, perhaps aiming for a pre-veterinarian track. However, Lou really hopes to minor in either some sort of photography course, or perhaps something having to do with graphic design. Lou's dream is to travel all over the world, exploring different countries on foot.
