Karen (Asahi) Ono, Staff Reporter
Karen (Asahi) Ono is a Copy Chief for ‘The Science Survey,’ where she completes major edits on articles that focus on grammar, punctuation, and spelling, along with helping to improve the structure and mechanics of classmates’ articles. He enjoys interacting with media that have diverse audiences and content, especially media on queer and racial narratives. Because of this, he believes that journalism is an important bridge for people – intellectually, culturally, and emotionally. To him, it provides a voice to the oppressed, and allows for a wide audience to be informed on a variety of matters that would otherwise be overlooked. He additionally enjoys going on walks and taking pictures of the city, focusing on subjects to observe the many aspects of life. He has a passion for social justice, especially climate justice, and he participates in legislative advocacy, environmental monitoring, ecosystem stewardship, mutual aid, and food justice. Asahi hopes to accumulate a wide range of knowledge in college, equipping him with the skills to take the social justice work he does in the city to a wider capacity.
