Alexandra Smithie, Staff Reporter
Alexandra Smithie is an Arts and Entertainment Editor for 'The Science Survey.' She reviews and edits articles on culture and creativity for this specific subsection of the newspaper. She loves the freedom that the Journalism workshop provides, especially in terms of creativity. Alexandra loves telling stories, especially in a journalistic way, as they combine writing, creativity, and current events, which are three things that Alexandra is passionate about. She is inspired by Hunter S. Thompson, a journalist famous in the 1970s after publishing Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Alexandra likes how journalistic photography is as impactful as the article itself, and appreciates the narrative aspect of photojournalism. Some of her favorite movies are Fitzcarraldo, The Shining, and The Third Man, and her favorite books are Ironweed, The Master and Margarita, and One Hundred Years of Solitude. Besides reading, knitting, and watching movies, Alexandra also writes poetry in her spare time. Alexandra was drawn to the position of Arts and Entertainment Editor because of her connection to the school’s literary magazine, Dynamo, where she is Senior Editor. Alexandra is strongly considering majoring in journalism in college.
