Highlights From the Food Fair on Tuesday, May 20th, 2025

Bronx Science clubs showcased their culinary skills and turned an ordinary day into a delicious experience.

Here is Ednah Chu, Class of 2025, enjoying her final food fair as a Bronx Science senior.

On Tuesday, May 20th 2025, Bronx Science successfully hosted the semiannual food fair. The food fair offers an enjoyable experience where the clubs of Bronx Science bring in all different types of foods to sell and raise money. To buy food, students needed to exchange real money for LOP dollars, which they used to pay club leaders for goodies. The money raised during the food fair goes towards our beloved clubs, giving them the chance to come back stronger next year.

There was a wide range of food available, from cultural dishes to simple, well-known recipes. The event had food for every craving: cookies, pasta, you name it! The food fair was the perfect opportunity to hang out with friends after our Advanced Placement exams and enjoy delicious food together—who would want anything more than that? “All the food looked great! There were so many snacks everywhere I looked,” said Mosfirat Ubaid ’27.

The purpose of the food fair was not just to raise money, but to be an event where people could create everlasting memories together and enjoy each other’s company as our 2024-2025 school year quickly came to an end.

Morium Khan is a Content and Proofreading Editor for ‘The Science Survey’. She is responsible for going over and fact-checking other articles before they are published. Morium views journalism as representing a person’s thoughts and experiences that make them a person in words. She has always been impressed by how creative authors get to express their thoughts, just as with a work of art at a museum where you contemplate it in order to figure out the underlying meaning. Ever since she was younger, Morium has always been amazed at how much journalistic photography communicates in ways that words cannot. She likes to spend her spare time reading and crocheting, and although she enjoys writing journalistic articles, she hopes to pursue a career in the medical field.

Cortez Pagan, Staff Reporter

Cortez Pagan is an Editorial Editor for ‘The Science Survey.’ She adores hunting for stories in journalism, tying overarching themes to seemingly mundane topics. Specifically, she is drawn to the intersection of history and psychology. Through her articles, Cortez hopes to convey the complexity of human nature and the nuances that come with every conversation. Alongside her journalism work, Cortez is the president of the Bronx Science Student Diversity Committee, president of Vivo Latino, and president of the nonprofit organization Calculators Solve Problems. She is also a member of the National Honor Society, part of the Sexual Assault Prevention Board, the Gender Equity Board, and the Girls’ Varsity Handball team. When she is not in school, Cortez loves hiking in the mountains, volunteering, journaling, and cooking. She also enjoys watching hockey and listening to all genres of music. Additionally, Cortez devotes her time to interning with various organizations such as the MET Museum, Kweller Tutoring, NYU Tisch School of the Arts, and the New York Historical. In the future, Cortez plans to pursue a doctorate in psychology and/or history, hoping to give back to the community as much as she can.

Aviv Kotok, Staff Reporter

Aviv Kotok is a Managing Editor and Advisory Editor in the Editor-in-Chief division of ‘The Science Survey.’ She finds that the most appealing part of journalistic writing is the research involved in producing an article, since it allows her to delve deeper into a topic in which she is interested. Her favorite topics to report on are music and sports. She loves journalistic photography because it gives her the ability to capture different viewpoints from varying perspectives. Outside of school, Aviv is found crocheting, playing sports, listening to music and playing musical instruments, or spending time with her friends and family. She is not certain as to what she will pursue after high school, but she aims to explore the intersection of STEM and humanities and hopes to incorporate journalism in this process.

Cooper Halpern, Staff Reporter

Cooper Halpern is a Content and Proofreading Editor for ‘The Science Survey.’ Through his journalistic writing, he portrays the stories of astounding people and places that would otherwise go untold. He also finds great interest in the art of photography. He believes that in every photograph, every component from the foreground to the background works together to depict a beautiful, unique story. Outside of school, Cooper is a member of the Lincoln Douglas squad on the Bronx Science Speech and Debate Team, as well as a dedicated leader in many community outreach organizations. In his free time, Cooper surrounds himself with friends and family and always has a good story to tell. In the future, he sees himself studying public policy and political science, with perhaps a minor in finance or classical studies. He plans to use journalism as a means to better himself in his future field of study and career.

Amanda Ro, Staff Reporter

Amanda Ro is a member of the Editor-in-Chief Division for ‘The Science Survey’ and serves as a Managing/Advisory Editor. Amanda appreciates the power of journalism as it provides a window into the world, sharing hidden stories, expressing multiple voices, and capturing unique moments. Amanda is especially interested in writing feature pieces because they allow her to blend storytelling with new insights about interesting places and ideas. Amanda also enjoys visual arts, and she takes her own photos for her articles to capture and share the beauty of a moment. Amanda is a member of the Bronx Science Girls’ Varsity Track team and a Junior Copy Chief for the ‘Reactions Physical Science Journal.’ Other hobbies in which Amanda frequently engages are reading, painting, drawing, writing, listening to music, and traveling the world. With her multiple passions, Amanda does not yet know what the future holds for her and what she would like to study in college. She is certain that she wants to leave New York for college, but she knows she will eventually return to the city.

Gigi Liu, Staff Reporter

Gigi Liu is a Student Life Section Editor and a Graphic Designer for ‘The Observatory’ yearbook, as well as a Staff Reporter for ‘The Science Survey’. She finds journalism to be an interesting field, as she enjoys reading from different perspectives on a topic, learning new things as her eyes move across the page. Gigi also admires the amount of effort and details that authors put into their works. She believes that photography is vital to the world, as it allows for a certain moment to be captured or evoke certain opinions or emotions in the viewer. After a long day of school work, Gigi enjoys drawing on her iPad and reading thriller books. Currently, Gigi’s favorite movie is Fight Club, and her favorite book is The Final Girl Support Group by Grady Hendrix. She enjoys entertainment that has a mystery to it and keeps her on edge. In the future, Gigi hopes to become a nutritionist or a pharmacist. She wishes to better the health of the people in the world so they are able to experience the world in the best condition they can be. Along with this, Gigi wants to also pursue a career in digital art, as she wants to express herself to the world.
