As 2018 came to an end, the film industry launched production for a lot of movies viewers are looking forward to in 2019. Starting off the year with a movie for all the puppy lovers was ‘A Dog’s Way Home.’ It came out January 11th, chronicling the heartwarming adventure of Bella, a dog who embarks on a four hundred mile journey to return to her owner.

The thriller ‘Escape Room’ kicks off on the first day of February. The story follows six strangers who find themselves in circumstances beyond their control. They must put their heads together to find out how to survive. Tahreem Aslam ’20 said “I feel like this would be a great movie to watch because it looks like a suspenseful, psychological thriller, which I love. I’m expecting to feel on edge and surprised at every turn.”

A couple days later, on February 8th, ‘The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part’ came out. In an all new action-packed adventure to save their city, the heroes of Bricksburg reunite. Emmet, Lucy, Batman, and their friends battle to defeat the LEGO DUPLO® invaders from outer space. Restoring harmony to the LEGO universe will put the team’s courage, creativity, and most importantly, Master Building skills to the test.

Ending the month of February is the third installment of the How to Train Your Dragon franchise, ‘The Hidden World,’ which came to theaters February 22nd. In this chapter, an adolescent viking, Hiccup, and his night fury dragon, Toothless, discover their true identities: village chief and leader of the dragons, respectively. Their relationship is put to the test when the sudden appearance of a female night fury dragon coincides with the darkest threat to their village. All together, they journey to a hidden world in hopes of saving their dragon utopia.
Later, on March 6th, everyone in theaters marveled at this captain. Captain Marvel will be the twentieth movie installment in the Marvel movie timeline, as well as the eighth installment of Marvel Phase 3.

Then, on March 22nd, Cole Sprouse, who went from Disney child star to internet heartthrob, will be starring in the romantic drama, ‘Five Feet Apart.’ Characters Will and Stella, played by Sprouse and Haley Lu Richardson, both suffer from cystic fibrosis. Upon meeting each other, there is an instant connection that is restricted by their illnesses. But, as their bond grows stronger, so does their temptation to throw the rules out the window and embrace their attraction. ‘Five Feet Apart’ challenges Will’s and Stella’s ability to love when even a single touch is off limits.

In Disney’s live-action feature film, ‘Dumbo,’ on March 27th, everyone’s favorite elephant comes to life. In a struggling circus, former star, Holt Farrier, played by Colin Farrell, is enlisted to care for a newborn elephant with oversized ears. Once it is discovered that he can fly, Dumbo is made into a star.

“‘Infinity War’ was such a great movie!” said Tahreem Aslam ’20.

A whole new team of superheros is expected to appear on ‘Avengers 4: Endgame.’ Like in its predecessor, Thanos will serve as the antagonist of a plot that revolves around the Infinity Gauntlet and the six Infinity Stones. “‘Infinity War’ was such a great movie! I’m expecting to have my questions answered because in no way did I expect the bad guy to win in the end. I am absolutely sure that ‘Avengers 4’ will be received positively because there has been a lot of hype for it,” Aslam said.

On May 10th, get ready to catch them all, or at least one adorable electrically-charged squirrel. In this live action version of ‘Pokémon,’ a young man joins forces with Detective Pikachu to unravel the mystery behind his father’s disappearance. Upon receiving clues, the two discover a threat to the Pokémon universe that they must fight.

A whole new world is brought to life on May 24th in ‘Aladdin.’ ‘Aladdin’ is an upcoming musical romance following the original 1992 Disney film based on the Arabic folktale of the same name from ‘One Thousand and One Nights.’ Mena Massoud was cast as Aladdin, alongside Naomi Scott and Will Smith as Jasmine and Genie, respectively.

As summer approaches, DC comic characters will reunite in the sequel ‘Justice League 2.’ Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, Aquaman, Green Lantern and Flash will be part of the DC Extended Universe on June 14th. Soon after, ‘Toy Story 4’ will be coming to theaters on June 20th; however, it will not be a continuation of the original trilogy. Instead, it will be a romantic comedy. Ashley Bao ’20 has very high expectations for the movie. “Watching the Toy Story series brings me a sense of nostalgia. I’m very curious to see what they’ll do in ‘Toy Story 4’ though, since I feel like ‘Toy Story 3’ already brought a good conclusion to the series,” Bao said.

At the start of July, be prepared for a summer spook. ‘Annabelle 3,’ the next movie in The Conjuring franchise will be out on July 3rd. The following day, July 4th, Bronx Science “graduate,” Tom Holland will be starring alongside Zendaya in the sequel ‘Spider-Man: Far from Home. ‘On July 17th, the live-action adaptation of a classic Disney animated movie ‘The Lion King’ will be brought to life.

On August 9th, Disney’s ‘Artemis Fowl’ comes out. The story follows a twelve-year-old who becomes immersed in a world of fairies, leprechauns, and vicious gnomes.
Every twenty-seven years, evil forces revisit the town of Derry, Maine. On September 5th, ‘It: Chapter 2’ comes out, and the group of kids who’ve gone their separate ways since the events of the first film reunite as adults to face this evil.

Later in the fall, ‘Joker’ will come to theaters on October 4th. Taking place in 1980’s Gotham City, it will focus on the Joker’s origin story. One month later, another superhero movie will come out on November 1st. ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ will be the twenty-fifth installment of the James Bond franchise.

Also coming out in November is ‘Frozen 2,’ the sequel to the smash hit animated adventure that was Frozen. It will come out on the 26th.

In the last month of 2019, ‘Star Wars: Episode 9’ will be in theaters on December 20th. It will continue the saga of the events that occurred in ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ and ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi.’
