Elias Silver ‘20 leads a public forum debate meeting. He is very passionate about the team, noting that “…it is always rewarding to help people enjoy something that’s difficult.”

At Bronx Science, every student is intelligent, articulate, and interesting. However, there are always a certain few that end up being chosen to talk at exhibitions, parent breakfasts, and presentations. These students are very well-rounded, have stellar grades, and are able to command a room when speaking. They are who come to mind when you think of a “star student.” These students know how to balance their workload and often help others to achieve their potential as well. There are many students like this at this school, which is great because they help represent Bronx Science as a whole. Overall, certain students stand out as being especially amazing in the Bronx Science community.

One such example of an amazing student is Elias Silver ’20. During his time at Bronx Science, he maintained excellent grades and participated in many extracurriculars such as debate, which he is especially good at. He said “I’m most proud of my time as public forum novice director. The role allowed me to mentor new members of the team, and it is always rewarding to help people enjoy something that’s difficult.” Silver manages to be academically successful while balancing numerous extracurriculars, which is part of the reason why he was selected to speak at parent breakfasts. He found the meetings to be fun, and he is glad that he could help others and answer any questions about the school.

It’s hard to be able to keep up with so many extracurriculars and still participate in school-sponsored events to help parents and other students. However, Elias managed to do this. He said, “I’ve found that motivation comes from habits. The more regularly you commit to any activity, task, or skill, the easier it will be and harder to forgo. It can even become a source of pride and ultimately, personal identity.” The key to becoming a successful student therefore lies in the work ethic and love for one’s activities.

These parent meetings are very important in keeping families knowledgeable and updated on what is going on around the school. This is why the students representing Bronx Science should be chosen wisely. They have to be knowledgeable and ready to share their own experiences in order to provide guidance to others. Parents often choose to ask students their questions, as the students have personal experience that can be useful. Also, the students chosen should be calm and easy to talk to, in order to ensure successful communication. All in all, these well-rounded, intelligent students chosen for parent meetings and presentations do an impressive job of representing every aspect of our wonderful school.

The more regularly you commit to any activity, task, or skill, the easier it will be and harder to forgo. It can even become a source of pride and ultimately, personal identity,” said Elias Silver ’20.
