Two Bronx Science Boys’ Soccer Players Named Best in Nation
Theodore Lowen ’18 and Zachary Siegelstein ’18 of the Bronx Science Boys’ Varsity Soccer team are also members of the #1 ranked boys soccer club team in the nation, Manhattan Soccer Club’s Villa. The club is also home to PSAL championship winning goal scorer Cameron Bonfils, a junior at Beacon High School, and several players from the Martin Luther King Jr. school, another well ranked PSAL team.
MSC Villa won the 2016 national game, beating Sockers Football Club, a Chicago team, 2 to 1. Proud of his club team’s win at nationals, Lowen said, “Being on such a good team outside of school and winning such an important title has inspired me and Zach to try to get the Bronx Science team as far as we can.”
It takes more than simply two great players to win a PSAL championship title. It takes a great team, one that Bronx Science should strive to foster. Siegelstein offered his suggestions on how to further our own team, saying, “I think the players on the Bronx Science team should trust each other’s ability more. Getting to a national championship wasn’t easy at all, and I think that if the Bronx Science players can have more confidence in each other, even if down by a goal, the team can go far.”
The other junior players on the Bronx Science Boys’ Varsity Soccer take great pride in their teammates’ victory. Alexander Izeman ’18 said, “Practicing and playing with Teddy and Zach is great; not only are they my friends, they’re also great at soccer.” Alexander Goldstein ’18 added, “Zach’s crosses to me are great,” then joked, “…even though I usually miss them.”
Lowen and Siegelstein are looking forward to the PSAL soccer season with the school’s team, and they can’t wait to compete for their second national championship with Villa in 2017. Siegelstein concluded, “Winning the national championship was definitely one of the greatest moments of my life, and I think that if all the talent on the Bronx Science team can get us a deep run into the playoffs, I’ll have a chance to feel that way again.”
