Bronx Science Open House: A Recap of the March 2026 Open House

On March 26th, 2026, Bronx Science opened its doors to the newly accepted students for the 2026-2027 school year.

Parents and accepted students enter Bronx Science.

The beloved Bronx Science Spring Open House took place on March 26th, 2026. The event is a celebration and introduction for students recently accepted into the Bronx High School of Science, showcasing all the different activities that Bronx Science has to offer.

Current students and their parents volunteered to discuss their school experience and to answer questions prospective students had. The incoming students and parents were able to explore the school and get a sense of what the Bronx Science community is like.

At the start of the Open House, parents and admitted students gathered in the auditorium and were introduced to Bronx Science with a vibrant student-led presentation. Staff and students spoke briefly before parents were allowed to tour the school alongside tour guide volunteers from the National Honor Society. In the cafeteria, there was merchandise being sold to parents and selected clubs and teams were able to discuss what they do to get future students interested. From learning about the Speech and Debate team to witnessing the robotics team in action, future students got a clear vision of what Bronx Science is truly about.

Michelle Garcia Rosario is a Content and Proofreading Editor for ‘The Science Survey’. She conducts research and extensively edits articles in order to ensure that the content written is factually correct and the prose is polished. In addition, she checks for grammatical errors and consistency in the writing. Michelle enjoys going into deep dives about topics that she is passionate about through her journalistic writing. She also has a love for taking photographs that tell a story because they help to capture various emotions. When she is not in school, Michelle spends most of her time outside in nature and loves to travel to different places. She plans to study environmental science in college in order to become a hydrologist in the future but wants to continue photography as a hobby.

Aissatou Barry, Staff Reporter

Aissatou Barry is a Copy Chief for ‘The Science Survey.’ Her work as a Copy Chief includes reviewing and editing her colleagues’ articles. The position mainly focuses on checking the spelling, grammar, and punctuation of the article’s contents. She also eliminates any mistakes to ensure that the article is engaging, understandable, and matches the editorial style guide. Aissatou finds the interviews she conducts when writing articles to be the most appealing part of journalistic writing because she enjoys getting to meet new people and learn about them on a deeper level. When it comes to photography, Aissatou most enjoys getting to capture those tiny aspects of life that seem simplistic but have a deeper story behind them. Outside of journalism, Aissatou enjoys creating and writing her own novels. For her, the most joyful aspect of book writing is the world building and writing interactions between the characters. Aissatou plans on studying political science and going to law school in the future.

Patricia Asiamah, Staff Reporter

Patricia Asiamah is a Student Life Section Editor and a Graphic Designer for ‘The Observatory’ yearbook, as well as a Staff Reporter for ‘The Science Survey’. Patricia finds journalistic writing to be interesting and engaging, because it allows people to be free to tell a story or share information without using a specific rubric. She believes that taking photographs gives people a chance to enhance emotions and perspectives that words can’t do on their own. After school, Patricia finds time to play the keyboard, make blogs, watch movies, and read graphic novels. She also enjoys traveling and learning about new cultures around the world. These hobbies will play a vital role in her future journalistic articles. The medical field has always been a path that Patricia wants to take in her near future. So despite journalism or graphic design not being a career goal for her, Patricia definitely sees herself continuing with them as a hobby.

Astrid Grimskog-Tran, Staff Reporter

Astrid Grimskog-Tran is an Editor-in-Chief and Graphic Designer for ‘The Observatory’ yearbook, as well as a Staff Reporter for ‘The Science Survey.’ In her work for ‘The Observatory,’ Astrid likes to take photos for school events and student life. She finds that the process of learning and experimenting to take good photos is fascinating and deeply enjoyable. When writing articles, she finds the detailed conversations in interviews to be eye opening, and enjoys when the discussion derails from the initial prompt. Outside of the yearbook, Astrid works as the Stage Manager for the Fall Play and Spring Musical, working with the many limbs of Stage Crew in order to bring the performance to life, transporting the audience to another time and place. Additionally, she loves playing the clarinet, an instrument that she picked up during the Coronavirus pandemic, and she hopes that everyone will appreciate the work that Concert Band and Orchestra, alongside the other performance classes, puts in, in order to prepare for their Winter and Spring concerts. While Astrid does not have a decided major in college, she is planning on continuing her pursuit of theater-tech, music, and journalism wherever she might end up.
