From Banana Heist to Jailbreak: Inside S!NG 2026’s Burglary Bananza

With a banana at the center of a grand heist, S!NG 2026’s production leans into humor while showcasing student talent.

Burglary Bananza is a 2026 original student produced musical presented by S!NG at the Bronx Science auditorium, with performances held on March 9th and March 11th, 2026. The musical follows four prisoners, Kay Split (Josie Goldlau), Fluffy (Jeffrey Ren), Danny Mike (Olivia Lin), and Curtis Call (Valeska Bozo), who escape from jail and regroup at Kay’s hideout to plan an ambitious heist. As they organize their operation, a plot unfolds in which persistent reporters attempt to track their movements and uncover the truth behind their scheme.

The narrative escalates when the group infiltrates a museum, only to discover that the object of their elaborate plan is, to their dismay, a banana. Frustration fractures the group, leading them to abandon Kay, leaving him isolated and disheartened. The story takes another turn when Kay is kidnapped, prompting the group to reunite and rescue him. In a comedic resolution, the kidnappers are apprehended while the heisters escape consequences entirely, ending the show on a lighthearted note of reconciliation and absurd triumph.

Additional characters featured in the production include Big O/Orion (Jade Morales), Cameron Snap (Angel Ni), Snapper Fin (Ramiya Sultana), Big Boss (Casey Gealon), Vega Bond (Annika Cadle), Hugo Boss (Alex Kousoulas), Jessie (Damien Yau), James (Doyita Talukder), Zylofone (Brandon Rodriguez-Morgan), Kuhzoo (Jefferson Tso), Didjeridew (Lynn Deng), Melodeca (Carina Zhang), Officer Spot (Sabrina Zhao), and Robertonio (Kyle Lee).

Overall the show blended comedy and dance perfectly. Good job, S!NG!

Anayah Hogue is an Editor-in-Chief for ‘The Science Survey.’ In terms of journalistic writing, she finds journalism particularly appealing in that journalism allows one to express their passion through an untraditional form of writing. She also admires that there are so many different forms of journalism such as long form, magazine, and educational. She loves that photography is a non speaking kind of communication that can be understood and admired universally no matter location or language. Anayah also appreciates various kinds of music and traveling to countries to which she has never been before. At Bronx Science, she is Cheer President and is happy to join so many people of different backgrounds together through the sport. She plans on double majoring in Neuroscience and Biochemistry on a Pre-Medical track. After her undergraduate schooling, Anayah plans on becoming a Pediatric Neurologist specializing in epilepsy care and research as a career. She does see herself continuing with journalism, but more as a hobby. In ten years, she sees herself beginning her first year as an attending physician while still participating in neuroscience-based research.

Astrid Grimskog-Tran, Staff Reporter

Astrid Grimskog-Tran is an Editor-in-Chief and Graphic Designer for ‘The Observatory’ yearbook, as well as a Staff Reporter for ‘The Science Survey.’ In her work for ‘The Observatory,’ Astrid likes to take photos for school events and student life. She finds that the process of learning and experimenting to take good photos is fascinating and deeply enjoyable. When writing articles, she finds the detailed conversations in interviews to be eye opening, and enjoys when the discussion derails from the initial prompt. Outside of the yearbook, Astrid works as the Stage Manager for the Fall Play and Spring Musical, working with the many limbs of Stage Crew in order to bring the performance to life, transporting the audience to another time and place. Additionally, she loves playing the clarinet, an instrument that she picked up during the Coronavirus pandemic, and she hopes that everyone will appreciate the work that Concert Band and Orchestra, alongside the other performance classes, puts in, in order to prepare for their Winter and Spring concerts. While Astrid does not have a decided major in college, she is planning on continuing her pursuit of theater-tech, music, and journalism wherever she might end up.
