Happy Little Accidents and Hot Tea at the Annual Bob Ross Event

A stress-free afternoon of art and relaxation closes out the week.

Students, including Chloe Li ‘26, embrace their individuality by starting their paintings off with unique and brightly colored backgrounds.

Bob Ross, a famous artist and television sensation, was known for his relaxing videos in which he would create gorgeous paintings. He coined the term “happy little accidents” to show the world that painting isn’t a precise or perfect art, and that even little stray marks can become something endlessly beautiful.

The S.O. Cabinet had its 3rd annual Bob Ross Painting & Tea Event, a cozy and creative way to unwind as the semester came to a close. Inspired by the calm spirit of Bob Ross, this event was focused on slowing down, embracing creativity, and enjoying a peaceful afternoon with friends.

On Friday, December 15th, 2025, from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. in the Bronx Science cafeteria, students recreated iconic Bob Ross paintings on small canvases while sipping warm tea. Whether being an experienced artist or just picking up a paintbrush for the first time, this event was all about having fun, relaxing, and letting “happy little accidents” happen.

Anayah Hogue, Staff Reporter

Anayah Hogue is an Editor-in-Chief for ‘The Science Survey.’ In terms of journalistic writing, she finds journalism particularly appealing in that journalism allows one to express their passion through an untraditional form of writing. She also admires that there are so many different forms of journalism such as long form, magazine, and educational. She loves that photography is a non speaking kind of communication that can be understood and admired universally no matter location or language. Anayah also appreciates various kinds of music and traveling to countries to which she has never been before. At Bronx Science, she is Cheer President and is happy to join so many people of different backgrounds together through the sport. She plans on double majoring in Neuroscience and Biochemistry on a Pre-Medical track. After her undergraduate schooling, Anayah plans on becoming a Pediatric Neurologist specializing in epilepsy care and research as a career. She does see herself continuing with journalism, but more as a hobby. In ten years, she sees herself beginning her first year as an attending physician while still participating in neuroscience-based research.

Felix Goldey, Staff Reporter

Felix Goldey is a Content and Proofreading Editor for ‘The Science Survey.’ He is responsible for ensuring all facts in articles that he edits are accurate and come from reputable sources. Felix believes that journalism, both in written and picture form, are critical steps towards the informed and educated public required for a well-functioning democracy. Outside of school, he loves to read fantasy books like Mistborn, and The Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson. Felix hopes to study Chemistry or Government in college.

Cooper Halpern, Staff Reporter

Cooper Halpern is a Copy Chief for ‘The Science Survey.’ Through his journalistic writing, he portrays the stories of astounding people and places that would otherwise go untold. He also finds great interest in the art of photography. He believes that in every photograph, every component from the foreground to the background works together to depict a beautiful, unique story. Outside of school, Cooper is a leader of various community outreach organizations and of the Lincoln Douglas squad on the Bronx Science Speech and Debate Team. In his free time, Cooper surrounds himself with friends and family and always has a good story to tell. A lifelong New Yorker, Cooper never fails to be amazed by “The City That Never Sleeps” and never fails to put his astonishment into words. In the future, he sees himself studying public policy and finance, with perhaps a minor in political science or economics. He plans to use journalism as a means to better himself in his future field of study and career.

Isla MacKarell, Staff Reporter

Isla MacKarell is a Copy Chief for ‘The Science Survey.’ She is drawn to journalism for it allows her to always dig for something deeper. Journalism creates an interesting and inspiring atmosphere for writers and readers alike to learn something new or surprising in an attractive way. Especially in the twenty-first century, journalism has taken on a new, stratified definition that doesn’t only include straight reporting, but explores other thought-provoking ways to convey a non-fiction topic or idea through detailed and creative use of language. Isla is also fascinated by the many types of journalism, especially how any topic that interests a writer can be materialized and published in order to spark possible new and exciting interest in a reader. When Isla is not spending her time writing for the ‘The Science Survey,’ deepening her photojournalism knowledge and skill, or participating in Bronx Science’s Mock Trial Team, she finds joy looking for adventures around New York City with her friends. Isla loves exploring and discovering new and captivating things about the city she grew up in. Although she has almost no idea on what her plans are for college and beyond, Isla knows that after her senior year at Bronx Science, she is curious about pursuing study in a literacy field.
