The Science Survey

Marian Caballo, Staff Reporter

Marian Caballo is a Copy Chief for ‘The Science Survey,’ and she is elated to be on staff for a second year. She is drawn to journalism because it keeps diverse audiences informed, engaged, and aware about diverse stories — and there is always an interesting one to tell. Marian specifically enjoys reading and writing journalism that spotlights authentic, human narratives while shining light on greater issues. She finds photojournalism appealing for its creative freedom and its ability to immerse readers with just a few shots. Marian’s interest in journalism has inspired her to take on roles as an intern at The Paley Center for Media and a Youth Media Fellow at the Downtown Community Television Center. Outside of school, Marian can be found conducting opioid addiction research at the Milner Lab at Weill Cornell Medicine, or engaging in science communication as an Explainer at the New York Hall of Science. She also enjoys taking dance classes, spending weekends at movie theaters, perusing The New York Times, and exploring the city with her friends. Although she doesn’t know what she wants to do just yet, Marian hopes to write for her college newspaper where she will continue to tell stories and explore the interdisciplinary nature of science and the humanities.
