The Science Survey

Lavanya Manickam is an Editor-in-Chief for ‘The Science Survey.’ She enjoys writing narratives that provide insight into various perspectives, and values informing the public about current events. She finds journalistic writing to be appealing in particular because it allows marginalized voices to be heard. Lavanya believes that journalistic photos are as vital in telling a story as the writing itself because they reveal emotions in a way that cannot be expressed with words. In her free time, Lavanya likes to go to thrift stores with her friends, work on her art journal, and practice the guitar. She loves to try new vegan restaurants and recipes with her family. Lavanya spent her summers researching immuno-oncology at the Icahn School of Medicine and working with the Anti-Racist Coalition at Bronx Science to launch initiatives for BIPOC students. She plans to major in Biology and English in college, and Lavanya hopes that she can spend her life pursuing a career that encompasses both fields.
