On May 28th, 2025, the last blossoms on the trees had fluttered onto the pavement of the courtyard and been replaced with thriving green leaves. When the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh period bell rang, students with free periods or lunch periods flooded into their beautifully transformed courtyard. Scattered around were quirky activities and delectable snacks – all for free!
After endless exams, Bronx Science students celebrated their hard work, licking popsicles and visiting the balloon artist for swords and animals during the annual Spring Carnival. Some teachers even tossed on their sunglasses and sported relaxed clothes. The S.O. Cabinet organized various carnivalesque activities: a cotton candy machine, an inflatable toxic meltdown, a bouncy castle, a balloonist station, beading crafts, ice cream, popcorn, and most importantly, the teacher dunk tank. Students competed to throw a ball into a target, which would cause the teacher to be dunked. These brave teachers were Mr. Kubiak, Mr. Nasser, Ms. Schmidt, Mr. Ziegler, Mr. Piccarella, Mr. Sheiber, and Ms. Bales.
Students from S.O. Cabinet and members of the NHS spent their free periods working hard restocking popcorn machines, making cotton candy, organizing games, taking photos, scanning IDs, and more. As Angi Musat ’26 said, “Everything seemed super organized, and I liked that they had a system for giving out ice cream.”
Laughter and joyful music danced through the warm air, and that blissful feeling of the end of the year started to come out. The Spring Carnival left students with all the energy they need to finish the year strong and have an amazing summer!
