The Bronx High School of Science Girls’ Varsity Soccer Team Dominates the 2024 PSAL Season

The Girls’ Varsity Soccer team had some well earned victories during the 2024 season, making it all the way to the finals.

The Bronx High School of Science’s Girls’ Varsity Soccer team has had an astonishing Fall 2024 season with no losses. They not only made it into the playoffs once again, but this year, they were also in the finals for the first time in nine years. Unfortunately, the girls lost 1-0 in the finals against Brooklyn Technical High School, ending their season.

The photos displayed are from one of the team’s games, highlighting key players on the field. However, the team is composed of about 30 students, from ninth graders to seniors, so we were only able to capture a select few. The game pictured above was played at the DeWitt Clinton Field in the Bronx, right next to the Bronx High School of Science.

Another game that the girls had at this field was the semi-finals. Because of the location, the Girls’ Varsity team had the pleasure of receiving a very large crowd from Bronx Science for the semi-finals. At least 50 people were on hand to loudly cheer for the girls. The school’s supportive environment has helped the girls to achieve victory this season. Everyone is wishing the team luck for their next season in the fall of 2025.

She writes about consequential issues for the purpose of not only educating others on engrossing topics, but also so that she can simultaneously learn more about the topic herself. Another motivation of Samantha's for journalistic writing is finding the seemingly trivial details of a story and reporting them to avoid misinformation, a problem she believes is potent in our current world. She also delights in capturing narratives all around Bronx Science through photography. She believes this allows memorable emotions and actions of students to not go unrecorded. Some of her commitments and interests include Girls' Varsity Soccer, Girls' Varsity Lacrosse, public forum debate, and the Manhattan Soccer Club. Samantha's hobbies aside from school entail reading, art, and skiing. She loves a multitude of subjects ranging from business, humanities, and STEM, so she is still contemplating a future career path. Samantha's aspirations, however, will never dissuade her love for writing and reporting.

Gwyneth Mahase is a Sports Editor for ‘The Science Survey.’ She is passionate about exploring new aspects of the world and finding the truth through journalism. She loves writing because it is a way for her to express herself and discover her place in the world. Gwyneth appreciates photojournalism’s ability to capture the power of a moment within a single photo. Photography can express people’s raw emotions and their connections with others. Outside of school, Gwyneth participates in two main activities. First, she is an avid member of the Bronx Science Speech and Debate team. Second, Gwyneth is always happiest when she is singing, and she is a devoted member of the National Children’s Chorus. Both these activities are centered around using her voice, which is why she enjoys writing for ‘The Science Survey’ as another outlet for using her voice. She has many favorite books, but if she had to choose one she would choose The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. Gwyneth has absolutely no idea what she wants to do in college, but she does know writing will be a part of her future.
