The bright golden sign of PappaRich lit up the night sky in One Fulton Square in Flushing, Queens. Papparich is the place to go for Malaysian food. The cameras of seated customers clicked away at the elaborately arranged dishes. Those who waited outside were excited to dine at the renowned PappaRich. Most of the tables were filled with families and friends having dinner and conversing with each other while waiting to be served. Some of them looked around and observed the way other people closed their eyes as they savored their meal. All the food, from ramen to rice, seemed mouthwatering.
One of the most famous dishes at PappaRich is the ramen, known for its unique flavor and distinctive broth (so irresistible that it is often drunk alone). The ramen at PappaRich originated with the creative fusion of flavors from both Malaysia and Japan. Of course, the Malaysian menu went beyond just ramen, and alternate food options include white pearly rice with tender crispy chicken and a side dish of maroon fish sauce. “The chicken satay was also very aromatic and the hainanese chicken platter was done so well,” said Melissa Ven. PappaRich’s commitment to satisfy its customers is more then just having amazing waitresses and waiters; the restaurant is devoted to pleasing all customers so it is willing to be flexible. This means the chef would easily tailor meals to the customers’ liking.
“The best part is the gula melaka which is the palm sugar syrup at the bottom; it has a dark and buttery with a hint of savory caramel taste,” said Jesse Morales’ 19.
The various drinks, on the other hand, are more deceptive. An example of this is its famous three-layer tea, which turns from ordinary dull brown to a beautiful swirl of pure white and brown once it is stirred with a long spoon. There are other varieties in which the tea has beautiful blue and pink hue. “The best part is the gula melaka which is the palm sugar syrup at the bottom; it has a dark and buttery with a hint of savory caramel taste,” said Jesse Morales’ 19.
The atmosphere of the restaurant is one of tranquility, with dim lights producing an easy-going vibe. The surrounding has a soft ambiance with just the airy conversations of the customers. It is very easy to get a table and the wait is not very long, as the restaurant is very spacious. The prices of the food are appropriate for the quality and proportion of the meals. So next time you head out, remember to try out PappaRich.
